Day 5: "You should just not try to read things."

Although we had the option to sleep in today, a few brave souls (Stephanie, Danny, Bill and myself) got up for 7:30 breakfast with Dr. Bob. After venturing around the area, we ended up at the Egg Harbor Cafe where we met the awesome Tanya! She was our very "rowdayyy" waitress and she definitely livened up the meal! We told her all about our class and even gave her the links to our blogs so Tanya, if you're reading this, thanks for a great meal and sorry if this isn't how you spell your name :)

At 10:30 we met in the lobby of the Westin to head out to Wrigley.  We were sad to leave...especially Stephanie, who became quite attached to the incredibly comfortable bed.  Hopefully all of our future hotels are as awesome as the Westin was! The traffic wasn't too bad so it didn't take quite as long to get into Chicago as it did to get out of it.  Dr. Bob dropped us off outside of the park and we all headed up to our seats which were relatively close to where we sat the day before (except Stephanie and Erick who got to go sit in the bleachers!). We were sitting down for approximately 20 seconds before we realized we were about to freeze our butts off (it was SUPER cold and windy), so we quickly made the decision to go walk around by the stores and food. It was during this time that I found the world's best jacket (a 5X Cubs jacket that would've gone down to my knees...too bad it was $75) and Conner, Danny and Madison found the world's best nachos (that's actually probably not true, but they came in a Cubs hat so they were cool).  Then we made our way back to our freezing seats.

After about two innings, Dr. Bob offered to take us to the van to get warmer clothes and everyone except Danny took him up on the offer.  The way leaving works at Wrigley is that they give you ten minutes to get back, so we took a nice little group jog to the van a few blocks away.  When we got there, total chaos ensued.  Three of us were changing inside of the van with our suitcases everywhere while everyone else changed outside in this alley-type place we were parked in. If anyone had watched this whole process it probably would have been pretty hilarious.  After scrambling to throw on layer after layer, we full-out ran back to the stadium and although we were a few minutes late, they luckily let us back in.  After that, the game was MUCH more enjoyable although still freezing cold.

The game was an exciting one for Cubs fan as they managed to defeat the Giants with a final score of 11-4.  They ended San Francisco's six-game winning streak as well as a six-game Wrigley Field losing streak.  Go Cubs, Go! Unlike the day before when the Cardinals fans seemed to be dominating the Cubs fans, today the stadium seemed to be exploding with Cubbie pride (maybe because after about the 4th inning we moved down to the lower level? not sure) which definitely made the game more fun  to be a part of.

Although it ended up being an exciting finish, we were all pretty happy to leave... did I mention how cold it was? ;) We went straight back to Cedar Rapids, only stopping once to get food and once to gas up.  We are now hanging out in the good ol' C-Rap for the weekend and then we're back in action on Monday where we start heading East! Can't wait!

My trophy. "Most Sneezes Award: Weth Ballace." #winning
